O.k, this is from about 5 pm and I just looked out again and the ice is out of the mouth of the bay, OPEN! But, still ice along the east shore and of course right in front of our water pump house. Sooo, well water for now to some of the cabins. This is a picture of our first guest of the 2014 season. Tom from MI. Eat your heart of Kevin.... although Hawaii does sound more fun Sunday SHOULD be all ice out. Suppose to storm so the rain will help. This will be it for updates on the ice, next, fish pics!!!!!

Well, the top 3 was at about 3 this after noon, darker but still lots of white areas. Some small openings but no channels yet. The last picture is our neighbor , Kerry from Caribou Lake Lodge about 350 yards from the mouth of the bay. Lets just say he gave up after busting up his prop and messing up his paint on the boat. The white stuff is over a foot thick, dark stuff his easy to get thru. There's always tomorrow, try, try again. Hopefully with the warm temps and some storms moving in for Sunday, maybe Monday will be the day.

That's not open water in the distance, it's deceiving with the sunshine. A small opening did open later in the day way up by Eagle Point. Will post more photos later today. Suppose to get in the 70's today and tomorrow and then some thunderstorms. I'm predicting late Sunday or Monday. Last year it was May 24th when ice went out. Stay tuned.

We arrived yesterday afternoon after an exciting drive up Hwy 527. The new pavement is great but the frost heaves will launch a 3/4 ton like the Space Shuttle. When you see the caution signs SLOW DOWN! The generator fired up with no issues and our little cabin warmed up quickly. The house takes to long to warm up so I left it go until this morning. All services are on and working fine. We no sooner got the generator going when the phone started ringing. Remember to try to call in the early morning or after supper time. We are busy this time of year and make every effort to get to the phone so just let it ring for a bit. "rumor watch" there are cell phone towers going up in town and maybe sometime mid summer we might have cell service. I would be happy to give an opening day report but the fishing is difficult right now. Some of the smaller lakes are open but Caribou Lake is tight. We dropped well below freezing last night so we waited until mid day to take a few pictures. Yes you can walk on it. The forecast looks good with temps above freezing and some periods of rain and drizzle. The frost is deep on the point and some of the cabins are surrounded by snow. As long as it doesn't freeze I can energise the water system from the well and MaryJo can work her magic in the cabins. We brought a few flowers with us and I had them sitting on the deck this afternoon. I guess the groundhog figured it was time to show his face. Remember "Caddy Shack"? The furry little bast#*d ate the flowers already! As conditions change I'll try to post more pictures. In the mean time check your tangle box, get your reel spooled with fresh line, check the web site and check back here often and remember....THINK WALLEYE!
