End of Season 2014

Scott's end of season, wave good-bye to our last guests of 2014. Snow accumulation, cold and windy, not quite what we'd like but can't control nature. Unfortunately no moose again this year, just one of those things. Our hunters gave it their all but luck wasn't on their side.

Scott and I would like to say "Thank You" to all of our guests this season for your continued loyalty and dedication. We look forward to seeing all of you again in 2015.

We had a slow start with the ice not going out until the 24th/25th of May. Even with a late beginning to the fishing opener, Caribou Lake never disappointed any of our guests. Walleyes were up in the outlets, Brockway, Campbell Creek, anywhere fresh water was flowing. It took awhile for the water temps to warm up but once they did, the fishing was fast and furious. Caribou Lake is one of those deep,cold water, Oligotrophic lakes-(Meaning: characterized by a low accumulation of dissolved nutrient salts, supporting but a sparse growth of algae and other organisms, and having a high oxygen content owing to the low organic content). It takes a few months to warm up and once the surface temp does warm, the fish mover deeper to cooler depths. 

Although this late Sept, our fishermen where finding walleyes in shallow, between 5-10 ft of water. Lake Trout seemed to be more difficult this year to find. The majority were caught while long-lining  in about 50-70 ft and being caught on spoons. We had some nice size Northern Pike caught AND released for more fishermen to enjoy next year.

Many of our fishermen stated this was one of the best years they've ever had, lots of bigger fish and more quantity being caught, and released. To those who released Walleyes over 18" and Pike over 40", Thank You! By doing so, you help preserve our fishery on Caribou Lake for many years to come for all to enjoy. Remember, fresh is better than frozen. Let em' go, let em' grow!

So, once again,  Thank you to all our guests, past and present, for making the last 14 years worth all the blood, sweat and tears. Scott and I have put a lot of hard work into making Forrest Lodge a quality, relaxing, enjoyable place for your well deserved vacations.
